The Brief

Pattern and typography make a great team!
This brief is aimed to get you thinking about how the two can compliment each other.

Firstly we would like you to create your very own alphabet which must somehow feature pattern within the typography.

This means it’s time to have some fun, so crack out all your favourite tools of the trade!
Your design could be a hand drawn alphabet filled with lovely pattern or can you cleverly use pattern elements to create each letter, or get experimenting with mark making to create some innovative patterns and textures to work with- the possibilities are endless!

Secondly we would like you to use your alphabet to present a concept of how it could be used on a greeting card or even a gift bag! This could be for any occasion so think carefully about your typography pattern and colour and what it would fit with.

Keep it simple and don’t over complicate it. Below are a few examples of some popular words/ phrases you might wish to consider:

I like like you
You’re my fave
Want to hold hands?
Let’s Smooch
Love Sweet Love
I’m falling for you
You make my heart happy
I think you’re nice
You’re my favourite
I like you and naps
After all this time? Always.
It’s better with you around
You’re so wonderful
You’re a diamond

Be as experimental as you wish and use a variety of mediums but here are a few suggestions to start with:

Mark making
Hand drawn typography
Water colour, paints and inks
Textures and collage
Digital effects.
